Troubleshooting
Broadband Problems
Below are the most common broadband problems and solutions for internet users.
1. Modem lights
flashing

PROBLEM
=======
You cannot connect to your broadband internet and your
modems internet or adsl light is flashing.
SOLUTION
========
The most common reason for this problem
is that your broadband filters have not been connected to each phone point, or they
have been installed incorrectly.

Normally you get 2 filters supplied by
your broadband provider, so if you have more phone sockets you will need to purchase more filters. These can be
bought at most computer shops or online.
This diagram shows how you should
correctly filter your home or office.
If you have installed your filters correctly and you
still are getting flashing lights then there could be a problem with the broadband signal coming into your home or
office. You will need to contact the technical support department of your broadband provider to do a check to see
if the signal is being sent ok.
*The wiring of your telephone cabling
can also effect your broadband. If you are having problems it is a good idea to disconnect all your telephone
devices and telephone extension leads from all phone points and to connect your PC or laptop with the broadband
modem directly into the filter of the master phone socket in your home or office.
If you get a broadband connection via
the master socket then you know the problem is with your internal telephone wiring. Sometimes your telephone
extension cables can cause the problem.
2. Page cannot
display
PROBLEM
=======
When you hit internet explorer it says "page cannot be
displayed" Your broadband connection is not live. If you cannot see the connection symbol in the bottom right of your screen, then you are probably not connected to the
internet.
SOLUTION
========
Click "Start" and then "Network
connections". Identify your broadband connection and double click the icon.
If you cannot see "Network connections" you will find it in the control panel for
windows.

flow

comes in your broadband connection can just drop off mid flow.

. Wireless broadband connection problems
PROBLEM
=======
You can receive broadband on the computer that your
wireless router or modem is connected to but you cannot get on the internet on your wireless laptop or
PCs.
SOLUTION
========
First make sure your wireless router has
the wireless option enabled via the router's control panel software. If that is on then ensure you have a wireless
card or adapter installed into your remote wireless laptop or PC's. Not all laptops are wireless enabled and some
have a switch to turn the wireless on and off. Reset your router by turning of the power. Leave for a few minutes
and power down all your laptops and your PC's. Then power up your router first and wait until all the lights are on
as they should be. Then power up your computers and try again.
